Choosing a patterned carpet can help to disguise mess made by children and pets in busy homes.
Mother of seven and author of two home makeover books Hannah Keeley said in a post for Ezine Articles that, as floors naturally attract dirt, selecting the right type of floor covering could camouflage mess in the home.
She said: "If you get the opportunity to choose carpeting, I would highly recommend picking out a shade that resembles something your son would track in off the football field."
Choosing a carpet with a pattern through it rather than just as a border can help as it gives more chance of hiding stains than a plain one.
A carpet can also be a good choice for a home with children as it is hygienic.
Carpets collect dust and allergens that can later be vacuumed up rather than released into the air for people to breathe in.
