Wood flooring has been selected for a development of green homes in the US.
The wood flooring will be installed in the main level of the luxury homes in Arlington County, Virginia, reports the Washington Times.
During preparation work at the site, 45 trees were planted and more than 165 were saved.
Green features in the five homes include an energy-efficient heating and cooling system, foam insulation and a central vacuum system, as well as the wood flooring.
Eco-friendly qualities of the houses have helped the development to qualify for two energy standards certifications.
The homes will cost around $2 million (£1.24 million) and are expected to be completed in August 2010.
Wood flooring is a good choice for houses as it can add character and warmth to a room.
It also offers an elegant style and the wide range of designs available means there is likely to be one that will suit all homeowners.
