Caroline Evans, 35, from Fareham My old lounge carpet was badly in need of being replaced. I’d just decorated the walls of my flat, and this suddenly made the sorry state of my carpet quite obvious to me! The terms of my lease don’t allow me to have bare floorboards, because the noise my footsteps would make on them would be a nuisance to my neighbours below. After shopping around for a bit, I decided upon a cream coloured ‘knotted’ looking wool carpet, which I got from Aztec Flooring. I liked it so much in fact, that I ended up getting this particular carpet for not just my lounge, but also my bedroom, hallway and study too! It looks lovely, the colour really ties in with the décor of my whole place and it feels great to walk on!
Alex Hughs, 42, from Overton About 5 months ago my husband and I agreed that we needed to buy some new carpets for a few different rooms of our house. Our baby had recently reached the crawling stage, and because of this our attention was drawn to the fact that we had mainly wood flooring in our home, which isn’t ideal when you’ve got small children. Also, our wood floors were starting to look quite tired and worn out, so it was time for us to do something about it! We bought a hardwearing, natural striped carpet and had it fitted in the nursery, the front room, the hallway and all the stairs in the house. We really like traditional looking furnishings, so we used antique brass stair rods too. It’s really enhanced the style of our home, and made us feel very ‘house proud’!
Keshini Chaudhi, 27, from Winchester Although I’ve had bare floorboards in my studio flat for years, I recently chose to get a new carpet instead. The main reason behind this is because I like to play my music fairly loud at home! I can’t really do it without disturbing my neighbours in the process, but I found out that having a carpet on the floor, instead of just floorboards, actually absorbs sound vibrations and works out much cheaper than ‘full on’ sound proofing - so I decided to go and check some out. They had loads of different kinds, all sorts of colours, patterns etc. but I didn’t know what I was looking for really. The guy at Aztec Flooring sorted me out though, once I’d told him what I wanted it for and what my flat was like. I got a thick, dark red ‘Twist’ style one in the end, which works a treat, feels really comfy and looks great and should last me for years - basically, it’s the best thing I’ve ever bought for my home, apart from my Hi-Fi system!
Hannah Edwards, 51, from Andover I needed to get a new carpet for my bedroom, because the old one had definitely seen better days - it was almost threadbare in places - and I thought it was about time I redecorated too. It’d been such a long time since I’d gone shopping for a carpet, and I wasn’t all that sure what was available these days or how much it might cost. After I’d decided upon the colour scheme I wanted for the room, I went to Aztec Flooring nearby who gave me some samples to help me work out what type would work best. It turned out there was a huge selection to choose from, and it was much cheaper than I thought it would be too. I chose a lovely, light brown carpet which feels amazing to walk on with my bare feet, and my cat loves it almost as much as I do - she prefers to sleep on the carpet instead of in her basket!
Claire Robertson, 40, Portsmouth When we moved to a beautiful terraced house, the carpets that were there were really grotty, old and absolutely awful! We decided that the best thing to do would be to completely re-carpet the whole place from top to bottom. We opted for a neutral coloured durable wool and nylon mix carpet throughout the house, because that way we could decorate however we wanted without worrying about whether the floors would match the walls in every room. The carpet fitters did a wonderful job - it’s really made our new home feel like ours, and it keeps the noise down considerably, which is especially important if you have three school age daughters living with you!
Mashiro Li, 37, from Devizes About 8 months ago my wife and I re-carpeted our flat. Up until that point, we had a lot of exposed wooden flooring, some laminate flooring and also seagrass too, all of which we decided we’d grown a bit tired of. We wanted something more luxurious, something a bit different, something that would make our house feel more like a home. We visited a Aztec Flooring, an independent flooring store and had a good look around at what was available. We told the shop assistant about the kind of effect we were after and saw a lot of carpet samples which were really useful in helping us decide on the right carpet for us. Not only did we purchase fantastic pure wool carpeting for our whole flat, but also the fattest underlay that money could buy, so we could just pad around in our bare feet whenever we like! Our home really does feel like one now, it’s much cosier, warmer in the winter, looks really chic and cool and even our TV sounds better - we couldn’t be happier!
